Congratulations Steve!! Well-earned. You’re improvement in just two short months is remarkable.  Keep up the hard work! We couldn’t be prouder.


1) How long have you been CrossFitting for?

I started CrossFitting in August of 2015. If you take out the 6+ months that I missed due to the shoulder surgery, I have been doing CrossFit for about 15 months now.

2) What do you consider your greatest accomplishment in CrossFit?

Since starting at Firewall, I have dropped more than 20 pounds and my fitness level has improved like I never thought possible. I weighed 195 around the holidays and am 171 today! Outside of that, it would obviously be Athlete of the Month 🙂

3) What is your favorite CrossFit movement and workout you’ve ever done?

I love handstand pushups. In a lot of ways they are a metaphor for my time doing CrossFit. When I started out, I was weak and unsteady. I would fall or fail repeatedly, but with practice I developed the strength and found my balance. My favorite benchmark WOD is Diane. I also love partner workouts. There is something uplifting about going to battle with someone else and encouraging each other to the finish.

4) What advice would you give for someone who is thinking about joining a CrossFit gym?

The biggest piece of advice that I could give someone new to CrossFit is just find the courage to get through door. Once you start, don’t get discouraged or focus too heavily on anyone else, except for yourself. Getting fit for me has been a marathon and not a sprint. It hasn’t come easy and there are many days when I am just not feeling it. Regardless, I force myself to go and walk out of the gym every day thankful that I invested the time in being healthy.

5) What is your favorite part about CrossFit Firewall?

My hands down favorite aspect of CrossFit Firewall is the community. Dave and Bucky have done an incredible job of creating an environment that is fun, challenging, and that enables us all to develop mentally and physically in a positive way. We all share a common passion and the camaraderie is a big reason that I have become so committed.

6) What is your greatest accomplishment outside of the gym since joining CrossFit?

Honestly, I think my greatest accomplishment outside of the gym is just being a better husband and father. CrossFit has made me more physically and mentally healthy and that has extended to every other part of my life, from my family life to my job.

7) What is your favorite movie and favorite character in that movie?

Good Will Hunting has always been one of my all time favorites. Robin Williams will always be one of the greatest of all time and I love the relationship that his character develops with Matt Damon’s.
