Congratulations Gleason on becoming our May Athlete of the Month!!!



Gleason has been with us nearly since we opened. We’ll never forget the day when he walked in the door, shook our hands, and handed us his credit card saying he wanted to sign up without any knowledge of what CrossFit even was!  Since his first day at CrossFit Firewall about 4 months ago, Gleason has demonstrated an incredible body transformation while drastically increasing his movement and skills.  If you’ve met Gleason before, you understand why everyone loves to be in the same class as him. He walks into the gym everyday with the biggest smile on his face that never fades.  It’s contagious!  He is one of the most positive and encouraging members at Firewall, and we are very lucky to have him.  Here are a few Q&A’s we did with Gleason, so you all can get to know him a bit better.  Congrats again!


  1. How did you start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit on February 4th which was actually out of the blue. I was sitting down at home one day, and I had one of those moments that I felt I needed to do something about my health. I was gaining weight and wasn’t feeling good about myself. I knew my sister Erica and friend Leo had been doing CrossFit for a while so I decided to call Leo.  Leo referred me to Bucky and said great things about it so I drove right away to the gym and signed my self up. 


2. What is your favorite part about CrossFit and CrossFit Firewall?

My favorite part about it is the support from both Buck and Dave and all of the Firewall community. I’m so proud to be part of such a great atmosphere.


3. What is your favorite CrossFit movement and why?

My favorite movement is push-ups because I want to be able to show my guns just like HULK!


4. What advice would you give to someone looking to start their CrossFit journey?

I would say try one class. It’s not necessarily for everybody because in order to do CrossFit, especially in the beginning, you need to have a positive mindset and persistence. Also you will be very sore at first, but that goes away quickly.


5. Has CrossFit changed aspects of your life outside of the gym?

Absolutely, I feel much better about myself. I lost 27 pounds in 3 months; all my clothes are fitting once again. It’s been an amazing experience. 


6. If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?

Hulk, to be STRONG!!
