Congratulations Julia! This was so well-beyond deserved by you.  Thank you for continuing to put in the hard work each and everyday both inside and outside the gym!

Below is our Q&A with Julia.

1. How did you first hear about us and what motivated you to start CrossFit?

My husband started at Firewall last October and once I saw how much he liked it and the results he was getting, I decided to bite the bullet, face my fears and try it out for myself. We are both former athletes so its been awesome that we found something we both really enjoy.

2. How much weight have you lost since you started?

I’ve lost just about 25 pounds so far, but have also added a lot of muscle.

3. What is the greatest personal feat you’ve achieved at Firewall?

Probably my endurance. When I started I could barely do bear crawls, burpees, and I could barely jog across the gym without getting out of breath. It’s still a work in progress, but I can tell a huge difference from when I first started.

4. What is your favorite part about CrossFit Firewall?

I honestly LOVE everything about Firewall (maybe except for the running workouts 😉 ). The people, coaches and workouts are amazing. I am never bored with the workouts and am constantly challenged. I look forward to coming in and will sometimes even plan my day around CrossFit!

5. Have you experienced anything at the gym different than your initial expectations?

My expectation of CrossFit was that the coaches scream in your face and push you to your breaking point with intense workouts. I’m not exactly sure where I got this impression from, but it’s the reason I was terrified to try. I could not have been more wrong. Bucky, Dave and Damon are very patient and really want you to succeed! They push you but in a good way!

6. What piece of advice would you give someone thinking about trying CrossFit?

I would say to absolutely try it! If I can do it anyone can do it.  It really is a lot of fun!

7. How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?

Outside of the gym, I definitely have more energy and I have the desire to be active again. I go on more walks/jogs on the rail trail, go hiking, take my kids bike riding and I feel stronger in general to do things I would have passed on doing before. Also, after completing the paleo challenge last month, I am smarter about my food choices and trying to stay on a low carb regimen. I now clearly see the benefits of a healthy diet and CrossFit!

8. What goals do you want to achieve by the end of 2018?

I would like to lose more weight and continue to build muscle. I also want to build up my stamina for running. Outside of the gym, I just want my family to be happy and healthy!

9. What are you currently obsessed with?

I am really interested in rock and stone identification (aka “crystals “, geodes, minerals, etc.) and their properties. My oldest daughter and I also like to tumble stones with a hobby tumbler. And cats, I LOVE cats!

10. Who is fitter: you or Fred (husband)?

Me of course!

11. What is your dream career?

My dream career is to be a professional horse trainer running a lesson and boarding barn. I have trained a few horses, and I am a Massachusetts licensed horse back riding instructor, but unfortunately the “career” part of it hasn’t worked out yet!

12. What’s the last book you read and how did you like it?

I am almost embarrassed to say that the last book I (almost) read was 50 Shades of Grey. I started it about 4 years ago and still haven’t finished it yet! But, I do like to read magazines!
