Congratulations to Kim for earning this month’s member of the month title!! Anyone who has met Kim knows how friendly she is. She’s quick to strike up a great conversation anyone would want to be a part of! Aside from her awesome personality, she is one of the hardest workers in the gym. She listens to her body and gives it her best on any given day. She’s demonstrated time and time again the importance of locking in form first before adding any serious weight to a lift. We’re so happy to have had her with us for as long as we have. Keep inspiring others, Kim! Check out the Q&A we did with her below!

How long have you been at Firewall for?
Almost 4 years

How did you first hear of CrossFit and why were you hesitant to start?
Julie Winston and Karen Larochelle were the first to tell me about it. They tried to get me to join CF for years and I always said No Way!
I always thought it’s too intimidating, it’s too competitive, I wouldn’t know what to do with a barbell.

When you started, what preconceived notions of CrossFit were untrue?
Everything I said above was untrue! From day 1 Firewall has never been intimidating or left me not knowing what to do.
Everyone from coaches to members have always been welcoming and supportive.

How many times a week do you workout? Why that many?
5-6, I know that seems like a lot. But some days I’ll do the WOD at home if I can’t make it to a class or go for a run or do yoga to mix it up a bit.
Work and life can get really stressful sometimes and working out is the 1 hour a day I truly make for myself. Someone else tells me what to do and I can just get in the zone and do something for me.

What’s your favorite Firewall moment?
It’s hard to say b/c there are so many…one would be doing the Firewall comp w/Liz Swenson, it was so fun and the energy in the gym that day was amazing!
And the 2nd would be getting my first rope climbs in the last few months, never did I think I’d be getting up there!!

What’s your favorite part about CrossFit?
The coaches and the community. The guidance/tips during the workouts and the encouragement from everyone are amazing.

What advice would you give to a friend interested in checking out a CrossFit gym?
Obviously, come to Firewall! Don’t be intimidated, just walk in the door, you’ll be amazed how great it feels.

What do you hope to accomplish by the end of the year both inside and outside the gym?
In the gym, stringing pull ups together
Outside the gym, buying a house

If you could take an all expenses paid vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Italy, I’ve always wanted to go, just haven’t made it happen yet

Would you rather own 100 duck sized elephants or 1 elephant sized duck?
I would have to say 100 duck sized elephants b/c elephants are cute and ducks creep me out and are mean. (although 100 elephants is a lot!!)

What’s your favorite type of music to workout too at the gym? (this could be a specific artist too)
Definitely beats!!

Do you think DBall looks better with or without his beard?
Ha…….with the beard!!
