Congratulations, Marc, for earning this month’s Member of the Month honor! If there’s one word we could use to describe Marc, it’d be workhorse. This guy never stops. He’s constantly go go going always looking to improve himself in all domains of life. He’ll be the first to admit that he’s lived a life of complacency before. But he’s also the person who won’t admit how incredible of a turn around in life he’s had. If you haven’t met this guy yet, you’re missing out big time! Congrats again Marc! How long have you been at Firewall and why did you start?
I started Jan 4th 2021 because I wanted to face my insecurities and push myself mentally and physically.

How much weight have you lost since the beginning of the pandemic? How did you do it?
I started my fitness journey in July 2020 and I was 265 lbs. When I joined Firewall, I was down to 210lbs. To get these results I built up slowly and ended up running 5 to 10 miles a day and lifting in my basement. I also made it a point to hit at least 20,000 steps every day of the week. I also drastically changed my diet: no dairy, no carbs after 2pm, no sugar.

If you saw someone new and timid in class, what piece of advice would you give them?
“Hard times make hard people”. Remember why you started CrossFit. You will get discouraged, but it’s important to remember that change takes time

What’s your favorite part about CrossFit?
Double unders and bar-facing burpees!! JK!
I like that the workouts are written for us. They are never the same, they are always challenging and pushing me physically and mentally. I see continuous progress in the number of reps that I perform, time it takes me to finish wod, skills that I built, etc.

What’s your favorite part about Firewall?
The coaching team is in regular contact with you anytime you are there, and everyone is respectful to each other.

What’s your WHY for working out?
To get jacked AF!!! LOL. But in all seriousness, I do it to give me discipline, longevity and quality of life for myself and my family.

How many days a week do you workout at Firewall? What else do you do for exercise?
I work out 5 days a week. I do hard (UNION) labor 6 days a week! And run occasionally.

What’s your proudest accomplishment thus far in the gym?
A combination of deadlifting 455lb and stringing together 6 muscle ups on my 1st try. Thank you, Damon!

What’s something you hope to accomplish inside and outside of the gym by the beginning of summer 2022?
Inside the gym: Make gains on every Olympic movement.
Outside the gym: Stay sober and stay focused on my wife and 3-year-old daughter.

What’s something not many people know about you?
I was a ranked chess player when I was younger.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Moscow and Siberia Russia, where Olga is from.

Who’s fitter: you or Olga?
Me, but I had 3-month head start 😉
